Teaching History from a Shoebox

Have you ever found an old shoebox under a bed, or in your grandparent's attic? We can't resist rifling through it in hopes of recovering some long-lost photograph, love-letter, or memento of a great aunt's childhood trip to the fair or the big city. Perhaps you visit a friend's house, and the aroma of a particular spice, or the print on the upholstery reminds you of something you didn't even know was in your memory. The stories of our families can be entered and enriched through a variety of artifacts, and can be recalled unexpectedly through all kinds of associations. The same is true of the histories we teach our students. In this webinar, we will explore the significance of filling shoeboxes for our students to help them remember the stories of their homeland, world and faith.
