Hires New VP Matt Sumers,

Expands Sales Team

Matt SumersMichael Van Hecke, M.Ed., founder and president of Catholic Textbook Project, today announced the hiring of veteran sales manager Matt Sumers as the company’s new Vice President of Marketing and Sales. Sumers will oversee marketing and sales, focusing on building out and developing a strong sales team and exploding already-increasing year-over-year sales.

“This is a huge step for our company,” says Van Hecke. “Matt brings to us a wealth of sales management experience, primarily in the Catholic Schools textbook market. Under his sales leadership, we have already begun expanding our sales team and working on a more aggressive marketing outreach.”

For more than 25 years, Sumers developed a proven record of sales growth. He built and led sales teams for textbook publishers, including most recently serving as National Sales Manager for Our Sunday Visitor Publishing. Prior experience also includes National Field Manager for the American Bible Society and National Sales Manager for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, where he increased sales by 24% and 33%, received the company’s highest sales award twice and mentored four additional sales reps while increasing territory 14% in a year.

But Sumers says his new role with Catholic Textbook Project is his most exciting yet.

“I’ve been in sales for more than 25 years, and to now sell a history textbook that is truly Catholic to our Catholic schools brings me great joy,” says Sumers. “I am excited for the opportunity to use my gifts as a sales leader for a company that has a vision of bringing back Catholic Identity to our schools, and to work with a group of people who are genuinely committed to the teachings of the Catholic Church.”

“We have a strong team of teachers and scholars producing the best history textbooks on the market today,” says Van Hecke. “Our textbooks are truly beautiful and engaging to students thanks to an award-winning, world-class graphics designer whose clients include J. Paul Getty Museum, The National Parks, Reader’s Digest, Sunset Books, Time Home Entertainment, Perseus Books, and Oxmoor House. We are proud to have international acclaim from Cardinals, Bishops, Superintendents and hundreds of Catholic educators. But, until now, we lacked a full-time, dedicated sales manager. It’s a blessing to bring in someone of Matt’s stature and renown.”

Sumers says “It is difficult to sum up why I am excited to work with CTP, but I do know that this is what God called me to do.  He came knocking on my door a few months ago, I answered, and the rest is history, no pun intended!”

Catholic Textbook Project currently publishes five history textbooks for grade range 5-12, which are in use in schools in more than 60 dioceses nationwide and in English-speaking pockets around the world.  For more information, visit www.CatholicTextbookProject.com or call 1-888-610-3354.
