1.  Do you offer e-book versions of your textbooks?

Yes, for all volumes.  (Scroll down to find several questions that answer how to download e-book version to various devices.)

2.  Do the textbooks meet State Standards?

Our series is written for the broad-based national norms for teaching history. They meet most state standards.  California correlation charts can be found on the “For Teachers” page of our Website.

Our textbooks are also excellent tools for the Common Core Standards requirements for Reading Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies.  Important Note: There are currently no Common Core Standards for History/Social Studies.

3.  Why do I need Catholic textbooks that are not religion books?

All over the country dioceses, bishops and superintendents are calling for a return to “Catholic Identity” in our schools.  The Number One mission goal for the Archdiocese of Washington DC is “Catholic Identity.”

The Western Catholic Education Association just passed a resolution to include “Catholic Identity” as an essential element of accreditation for Catholic schools.  In the tract The Holy See’s Teaching On Catholic Schools, the Church emphasizes that Catholic identity is achieved, in part, through a curriculum infused by the truth of the Catholic Faith.  This is the newest and greatest need in Catholic schools, and Catholic Textbook Project is at the forefront of providing “Catholic Tools for Catholic Schools”®.

4. What can I do to get these textbooks into my child’s school?

  1. Familiarize yourself with the compelling movement to increase Catholic identity in Catholic education today, then appeal to your school’s leadership and your pastor to be on the cutting edge of this wonderful change. Almost every principal and teacher, and even superintendents, have been very excited about the great opportunity offered by CSTP to aid them in their efforts to provide a more excellent Catholic education.
  2. Try to help arrange a “sponsorship” relationship between a benefactor or, say, the local Knights of Columbus chapter, and the school. A sponsor could offer a grant to purchase a set of books for a classroom or several classrooms. This has already worked in other schools around the country.

5. What is included in the Teacher’s Manual?

The Teacher’s Guide includes outlines, timeline information, lists of key words and key people, quizzes, tests, chapter summaries, suggested related literature titles and other reference works for research projects, extra activities, pronunciation guides, and other information. 6. Do you have Student Workbooks?

We provide printed workbooks for JAA:CA, FSTSS, AYL, LTN I and LTN II. See (click on) The Textbooks and Features for more information.

7. Are you working on any other volumes?

We are currently halfway complete with our 4th grade regional series. There will be seven regional volumes. There will be four volumes completed for this fall, 2019: JAA: California, JAA: The Great Lakes, JAA: The Northeast and JAA: The Southwest.

9. How much do textbook, workbooks and teacher’s guides cost?

The textbooks range in price from 29.95 to $80 for the high school level text. Textbooks are currently priced well below the standard textbook competition’s prices. Teacher Manuals range from $20 – $40, and Student Workbooks (Printed) are $12 and the Workbook CD’s are $25 for a classroom license ($10 for a homeschool license).

11.  Will you be doing anything other than publishing History textbooks?

We will be working on both science and language arts textbooks following completion of the social studies/history books. It is essential to get sound scientific thought, with the essential deference to our Creator and loving God, to our children in Catholic schools so we can educate well prepared young people to think through the myriad moral-science issues that face ours and future generations. Similarly, we must give our Catholic school students every edge in the world, since they are called to be apostles. Hence, they need to have a broad understanding of the body of excellent literature and become masters of the written and spoken word. CSTP will make this possible with a first rate language arts program based on the time-honored traditions of literature and grammar, logic and rhetoric.

12.  How do I access my e-book?

Here are instructions for various applications:

Installing on a computer
Our ebooks use Adobe digital rights management software. In order to view them you must use a reader that supports this format. We recommend Adobe Digital Editions. Follow these instructions to install it and view your book on Windows or Mac.

  • Get a free Adobe ID here.
  • Download Adobe Digital Editions and install it.
  • Run Adobe Digital Editions, and LOG IN with your Adobe ID.
  • For more information: see Why do I need an Adobe ID?”
  • In your purchase email, click the link to see your available downloads.
  • Click the download link for your first ebook. It may open in Adobe Digital Editions automatically.
  • If it does not, find the place where the “urllink.acsm” file was downloaded to and drag it onto your Adobe Digital Editions window to add it to your library.
  • Your book will download
  • Repeat the previous three steps for any additional ebooks.

If you have trouble running Adobe Digital Editions, and you are on a Windows PC, you could also try the Windows version of Bluefire Reader.

13.  How do I Install my e-book on an iPad?

There are two ways to install on iPad. You can install directly, or you can install on your computer first, and then copy it over with iTunes. These are instructions for installing it directly. For instructions on copying it over, see below.

Start with installing a reader app that supports Adobe Digital Editions. Not every reader app does, so check to make sure. If you are in doubt, we highly recommend you try the free Bluefire reader app. You can find it for free in the App store.

After you load your app, you should log in with an Adobe ID. If you do not have one already, you can sign up for a free account from right within the Bluefire app. To learn more about Adobe ID, click here.

If you are logged in when you download your ebook, Adobe will link the book with your ID instead of with your device. This means that you can move the book to other devices and back it up in case your iPad gets lost or stolen. It is important to log in before you download your ebook, or your book will be permanently tied to the iPad hardware instead of your ID.

14.  What is this URLLink.acsm file?

This is a license file. Adobe digital editions uses it to procure your actual ebook. You cannot open the file in “Adobe Reader.” Instead, you must follow the install instructions for your particular platform as explained in this section of the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

15.  How do I install an e-book on other devices?

Our ebooks can be installed on any device that supports Adobe Digital Editions DRM. This includes iOS devices and many Android tablets and mobiles. If the device does not support it out of the box, you may have to install the free Bluefire reader. If you are unsure if your device is supported, look in your App store to see if Bluefire is available for download.

Please make sure you get a free Adobe ID and log in inside the reader app before downloading your book. This will allow you to copy the book to other devices that use the same ID, and make backup copies as well. Bluefire reader lets you create an Adobe ID from right within the app. To learn more about Adobe ID, click here.

Once you have a reader app and an Adobe ID, just click the download link that we emailed to you. On many devices it will automatically open in Bluefire (or your reader app of coice).

If you are also using the eBook on a desktop computer, you can follow those instructions first, then connect your reader to your PC while Adobe Digital Editions software is running, and see if the device shows up. If it is compatible with the software, your device will appear in Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, and you can copy the book over that way.

If your device has it’s own way of copying documents over for apps to use, follow those instructions to copy your ebook over.

16.  How do I copy an e-book from a computer to an iPad?

To copy from your computer to your iPad, first follow the computer install instructions. You will need an Adobe ID in order to copy from the computer to the iPad. You will also need to have iTunes installed. Once you have installed the book successfully on your computer, follow these instructions to copy it to the iPad.

Prepare your iPad:

  • Install the free Bluefire Reader app on your iPad. You can find it in the app store.
  • Run Bluefire on your iPad.
  • Click the little “i” icon at the top to see the info page.
  • Choose the “Authorize” option, and put in your Adobe ID information.

To copy the files:

  • Run iTunes on your computer.
  • Connect your iPad to your computer.
  • Click on your iPad in the Devices menu
  • Click on the Apps tab.
  • Select Bluefire from the list of apps.
  • Click the “Add…” button and find your ebook on your computer Hint: on Windows, it will be in Documents->My Digital Edtions

17.  How do I copy an e-book from an iPad to a computer?

For this to work, you must have used an Adobe ID when first installing the book on your iPad. Check the instructions for installing on iPad to learn about that.

  • Run iTunes on your computer.
  • Connect your iPad to your computer.
  • Click on your iPad in the Devices menu
  • Click on the Apps tab.
  • Select Bluefire from the list of apps.
  • Select the book you want to copy from the list of documents
  • Click the “Save To…” button and save it somewhere on your computer.

To actually view the book on your computer, install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, and log in using the same Adobe ID that you used on your iPad. Now you can drag the book into Adobe Digital Editions, or else go to File and choose the Add to Library option.

18.  Can I print my books?

You may print your Student Workbooks, as well as the quizzes and tests. You may not print the textbooks themselves. To print:

  • Run Adobe Digital Editions.
  • Open the book you want to print.
  • From the menu choose File->Print.
  • Print all of the book, or type in the pages you want to print.
  • Hit Print.

19.  Why do I need an Adobe ID?

You need an Adobe ID so that you can copy your e-book to different devices that you own. You can get a free Adobe ID here.

An Adobe ID is an optional feature that allows you to log into any computer or device and authorize the viewing of your ebooks on that device. It works with the Adobe copy protection that our books use, to make it a bit more flexible for our users.

An Adobe ID is not strictly necessary to view your book, as long as you use an application that can view Adobe DRM protected files. However, if you do not log in with an Adobe ID before you download your book for the first time, it will be tied to the computer on which you first download it.

This means that you will NOT be able to move the file to any other computer or device. If you get a new computer, or if your computer fails, you will lose access to the book.

On the other hand, if you use an Adobe ID, the file will be tied to the ID instead of the computer, allowing you to:

  • Copy the book to another computer.
  • Have the book on your PC, laptop, and iPad at the same time.
  • Make backups of the book in case of computer failure.

20.  Can I install on Linux?

Unfortunately, there is no official support for Linux in Adobe Digital Editions. Some more technical-minded users have reported success installing it with wine, but we do not offer official support for this. If you are interested in learning more about this, you can start by checking out the entry at WineHQ.

Adobe Digital Editions does run fine in VirtualBox, so if you have a licensed copy of Windows, you can also run it this way just fine.

21.  Will the e-book work on Kindle?

Unfortunately, there is a formatting war going on between Adobe and Amazon. Because we use Adobe for our copy protection, most Kindle devices will not display our books. However, if your Kindle is Android-based, such as a Kindle Fire, you may be able to install Bluefire reader and view our books. Look in the app store and see if Bluefire is available.

If Bluefire is not available, you may be able to follow these directions to get it working.
